Professor Ryoji Asahi

Ryoji Asahi is a Professor at Institutes of Innovation for Future Society, Institute of Materials Innovation, Nagoya University in Japan.

He obtained his Ph.D. in physics from Northwestern University, IL, U.S.A., in 1999 for the research on electronic structure and excitation properties of semiconductors in Prof. Arthur J. Freeman’s group. He had worked in Toyota Central R&D Laboratories, Inc. since 1987, where he was involved in development of energy and environmental materials such as visible-light-sensitized photocatalysts, and computational methodology such as on-the-fly machine learning potentials.

In 2021 he has been a professor in Nagoya University. His research aims to find key materials that contribute to solving energy and environmental problems through materials design using first-principles calculations and materials informatics.
